The Safety Net Project

The Safety Net is a community-driven, youth-centred initiative aimed at ensuring that young people’s experience of homelessness is brief, rare, and non-recurring.

The Safety Net is a network of host homes which offer a safe supportive alternative to motel emergency accommodation for rangatahi in west Auckland. The goal of short term host homes is to provide a safe temporary and welcoming space for a young person, giving them time to reconnect with whanau or make decisions about other housing options.

The safety net project is about empowering community, mobilising community resources and caring adults and communicating to rangatahi that their community cares and is putting that care into action by literally opening up their doors.

We are looking for compassionate and caring ‘hosts’ who have a spare room in their home and are willing to welcome a young person into their home and into their life.

If you would like to know more about what it means to be a host home and how you can play a part in preventing and ending Youth Homelessness in your community, then contact Josh our Safety Net Project Co-ordinator.
